Give me 5..

130412-unit-1

What if you would walk in to a restaurant and the waiter tells you to wait 5 minutes while he prepares your table and he would actually start to build a new table?
Pherhaps you think that this is ridiculous but this is not a joke..

Designers Thomas Vailly and Itay Ohaly where asked to design the furniture for Fabriek-C, an empty fabric hall located in the Eindhoven creative district Strijp-S. The location had to be ready within a month and was designed ass a restaurant/ exposition space/ workshop, all in one.

Because of the short amount of time the designers wanted to create all the furniture on sight. They contacted Christian Fiebig, a production machine designer, and together they created this compact CNC-machine.

This machine can make furniture within a few minutes, it’s all about instant gratification.
The concept also won the Frame Moooi Award 2013 because it is a breakthrough in furniture design and gives us a glimpse on how the future could look like.

So I would like a table for 6 please!

The Future of STUFF – D/STRUCT

When you think about the future how does your house look like? Are all your closets packed with stuff? And when you move do you need a truck for all your belongings?

D/STRUCT a concept by Lucas Maassen and Raw Colour gives a new view on our future. Why should you own physical stuff if you can own it virtual?
Think about it:
– You take a sealed bag filled with materials
– You scan the code on the bag
– Your computer recognizes the code and a 3D blueprint of the product appears

But when you’re not satisfied with virtual ownership then just use the 3D printer and print your product!

So if you have a dinner for 10, your able to print out 10 plates and create you own design on the plates!
No more stuff, when we move in the future we move 1 box filled with material bags, a computer and a 3D printer!

Spotify, music streaming on the go..

I probably don´t have to explain what Spotify is because its well know over the globe and is the number 1 competitor of Itunes. But for those that have been living underneath a rack the last couple of years, a short explanation:

Spotify is a digital music streaming program that gives you access to over a million songs. You don’t have to wait for the song to be downloaded, you can share music through Facebook with your friends and create your own playlist.
If you sign in at Spotify you have 3 options:
No.1 Spotify Open: This is the free version where you get 20 hours of music a month for free but there will be commercials played between songs.

No.2 Spotify Unlimited: €4,99 a month but you get unlimited streaming without advertisements.

No.3 Spotify Premium: €9,99 a month with the same benefits as unlimited and with offline streaming mode and useable on your mobile phone.

Spotify is a great tool for Urban Nomads, because Urban Nomads want to have free access to information, data, music, video. Want to use it when they like where they like and are often creative individuals where music plays a big part in their daily lives.

Also Spotify offers you the opportunity to share your music, and Urban Nomads are all about sharing information, data and personal information. That is why a lot of these Urban Nomads use Facebook.

So just try Spotify Open, the ads aren’t that interrupting and you can listen to free music, a lot of free music!

Kickstarter, Fund & Follow Creativity

After the success of Sellaband there are a lot of funding platforms popping up on the internet. Kickstarter is one of them, an online threshold pledge system for funding  creative projects, from films to music, product design and food-related projects.
This site is based on crowdfunding so you raise money for your project.

How does it work?
If you have a great concept for a project you put a description/ briefing of this concept online, you set a deadline and a minimum of funds to raise and that is basically it!! If the chosen target is not gathered by the deadline, no funds are collected, so if you want to support a project you will not lose you’re money if the project is cancelled.

Top projects:
– TikTok + LunaTik watch kits, which turns Ipod nano’s into a multi-touch watch
Glif Tripod mount & stand for your Iphone 4
– Designing Obama, a book by Scott Thomas (design director Obama Campaign) about how design influenced the election of Obama.

So if you have a great idea an would like to realize it but have no idea how to get the money, take a look at Kickstarter and perhaps your idea will be realised

Interactive Wallpaint

Are you, just like me, a fickle person that likes to rearrange furniture once in a while and gets a little tired of staring at the same coloured wall for months? Well thanks to Nano technology it gets a lot easier to adjust you living space to your mood. The interactive wall paint gives you the freedom to change the colour of your walls with a push on a button. Just paint any surface you like once with this paint and thanks to the nano particles in the paint you can choose any colour from the accompanied computer program.

So if you are fed up with the colour of your wall but don´t want to invest a lot of time and effort in painting over, this paint it the solution. In an instant your wall will change in the desired colour!!

And another pro for this kind of paint is of course that it’s a sustainable way to change your walls, no more gallons of paint, just one bucket will do the trick!!

Edible Pen

Are you one of those people who is always chewing on your pen while writing a paper, letter or making notes? Well a Dutch student of the Design Academy in Eindhoven, Dave Hakkens, is one of those people! And when he is chewing on his pen he gets the urgent need for something sweet like candy, but not everybody always carries candy around in their bags or pocket. That is why Dave Hakkens created the Edible Pen, a pen for sweet thooths .

This pen gives you Instant Gratification, because it takes after your desires for something sweet in the classroom, on your work, in the train.. Everywhere!!

So if you write a lot, like to chew on your pen, hate the mess the ink gives and loves candy…  You definitely need and want the Edible Pen!

Stampot To Go

During the cold winter months I always like to eat a typical Dutch dish, Stampot!! You can make a hole lot of different types of stampot but my problem is that i live by myself, it’s a lot of work, an i have a really small kitchen that makes it not very easy to prepare this dish!!

Now there is a company with the perfect solution, Stampot to go!! They are only open during the winter months because the location they use are ice cream stores that are closed from november till march!!

The first stores in Utrecht, Eindhoven, Amsterdam and Den Bosch are a fact, and next year they are coming to my hometown Tilburg and will be using the building of Intermezzo (ice cream store)!!

I can hardly wait to fulfill my need for Stampot!! This is Instant gratification..
